Notes

  • There is a general consensus that the three Siberian Tatar dialects -- Tobol-Irtysh, Baraba, and Tomsk -- should be considered dialects of a single Siberian Tatar language.
  • Although no dialects have been named, there does seem to be an east-west distinction. Western varieties preserve the sound č and share certain vowels with standard Tatar such as ö in place of ü. Eastern varieties change č to ts and preserve ü. For example, western ö̆č, eastern üts 'three'.
