CT form *sïčgan~čïčgan. Initial consonant alternates widely as s~sts~š~č~t. This may be due to assimilation or dissimilation of initial consonant. Chuvash šăši is likely not related. Many Siberian languages exhibit forms in *küske. Turkish fare is a borrowing from Arabic; sïčan refers to rats in standard Turkish, but does refer to mice in eastern dialects.
